Brewery Of The Month #11 – Coastal Delights with Kinnegar Brewing

Number eleven is here at last! For the big double one of our Brewery of The Month, we’re chilling out by the North West coast of Ireland, and cracking open a brew or two from the ever-popular Kinnegar Brewing! Be sure to scroll on down and see what they’re all about. Slainte!

So, Who Are Kinnegar Brewing?

Situated in the picturesque village of Rathmullan on the rugged North West coast of Ireland, Kinnegar Brewing has been making waves in the craft beer industry since their humble beginnings in 2011. The brewery takes its name from Kinnegar Beach, just north of the brewery’s original homeplace in Rathmullen, Co. Donegal. The brewery was founded by Rick LeVert and Libby Carton, and it wasn’t long before they began to make waves in the Irish Craft Beer scene with the release of Limeburner  and Devil’s Backbone. Today, they produce an array of unfiltered, naturally carbonated beers in a range of styles and as of 2017 have relocated to a new state-of-the-art facility in nearby Letterkenny. And while the bleating of sheep and fresh coastal airs are no longer a part of the brewing process, the team at Kinnegar assure us the farmhouse ethos is still at the core of their work.

What Are They All About?

Kinnegar Brewing's commitment to craftsmanship is evident in every drop of their beer. They pride themselves on using the finest ingredients and time-tested methods to create brews that are both authentic and innovative.

The brewery produces a diverse range of beer styles, including ales, stouts, porters, and more. Some of their most popular offerings include Rustbucket Rye Ale, Scraggy Bay IPA, and Devil's Backbone Belgian-Style Tripel. Each beer has a story to tell, with flavours that are as diverse and intriguing as the Irish landscape itself.

What’s With The Buckets?

From Rustbucket, Black Bucket, Bucket and Spade, Phunk Bucket, Bucket Brigade, it looks like the folks over at Kinnegar Brewing have an obsession with buckets. Well, the answer is somewhat two parts: their fascination with rye malt (a key ingredient in the beers listed above) and their beloved Irish Terrier Rusty, more affectionately known as Rustbucket who sadly departed during the production of their first rye beer. As such, their iconic brew Rustbucket is named after the bestest boy.
