Deposit Return Scheme – What You Need To Know

As we're sure you're aware, the Deposit Return Scheme has been rolled out across Ireland. The goal of this incentive is to address environmental challenges, reduce waste, and promote recycling. In this short blog post, we will answer some questions you might have about Ireland's Deposit Return Scheme and what you need to know.

What is the Deposit Return Scheme

The Deposit Return Scheme is a system where consumers pay a small deposit on beverage containers (between 15c and 25c depending upon the size of the container). This amount can be reclaimed upon returning the empty containers for recycling through a reverse vending machine (RVM) where it will issue a voucher to be used at the store where it was returned. The scheme specifically targets single-use beverage containers, such as plastic and glass bottles, and aluminum cans, which contribute significantly to pollution and environmental degradation. As Craft Beers Delivered is an online store, we don't have the ability to offer returns so be sure to check in your local area and ensure the cans/bottles have the Re-turn logo so it is approved!

As this initiative continues, we may see a slight increase in the cost of cans and bottles (don't worry, stock that has not been approved or prior to the relabelling will be sold at their original price until the end of May). We will do our very best to signpost which stock is approved with the added cost and keep you updated as news develops. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out and we will get back to you as soon as possible!
